On the Water, Everything Becomes Clear

Across the Open Sea, We Are United in Our Dedication to Trauma Healing

Who We Are

Using the sailing to create the conditions for trauma healing, meditation, and peace.

Sailing Dharma is a floating sanctuary built around a single conviction: the sea heals. Over the past few years, Dharma has carried war veterans, survivors of trauma, and anyone weighed down by the invisible burdens of modern life out past the harbor and into open water. What happens out there isn’t magic—it’s the oldest kind of healing. Shoulders drop, breathing softens, and the mind finally has something present to rest on.

We sail out of Marina del Rey, heading upwind toward Malibu, and back. Every voyage is intentionally designed—part sailing adventure, part guided meditation, part vulnerable human gathering. We are not a therapy clinic. We are something rarer: a place where the ocean itself does the work, and where every person aboard is given permission to simply be.

Our Approach

We Create a Safe Space on Open Water

The sea has a way of stripping away pretense. Once the harbor disappears behind you and there is nothing but wind, water, and sky, the usual distractions fall quiet. That’s not an accident;it’s the foundation of everything we do.

Our outings are structured in two phases. The first leg sails upwind—rougher, more demanding—where guests engage in active sailing exercises that mirror life’s challenges, like “tacking through conflict.” The second leg sails back downwind, where we introduce meditation, sound bowls, journaling, and a sharing circle. Together the two halves create a complete arc: the challenge, and the release.

Although not everyone can get on a boat, the lessons don’t stay on the water. The tools we teach—breath awareness, presence under pressure, finding stillness in motion—translate directly to hiking, walking, surfing, or even sitting quietly on a park bench.

01.

— Our Mission

To use sailing as a metaphorical and literal vessel for obtaining the benefits of meditation, peace, and happiness—quickly and accessibly—for anyone willing to step aboard.

02.

— Our Vision

A world where healing is not confined to a clinic or a cushion, but found in the wind and the water—where the open sea becomes available to veterans, trauma survivors, and seekers of all kinds.

03.

— Our Story

What began as simple day sails slowly revealed something profound. Trip by trip, story by story, Dharma became a vessel of calm, soul, and healing—not in theory, but in lived experience.
